Nine karate students from the Randfontein Goju Ryu Karate Club took part in the All-Goju Championships that took place at the Portuguese Hall in Turfontein, Johannesburg on 25 May.
Students and instructors from all around South Africa attended this prestigious event to showcase their karate skills and competed against each other in a kata routine and kumite fighting.
Randfontein Club was awarded with 10 medals during the event.
Ettienne van Zyl took the gold in the kata routine as well as a bronze medal during his kumite kighting.
Alex de Sousa was awarded with a silver medal in the kata routine, while Rujuan Jansen van Vuuren took third place in both the kata routine and the kumite.
Marco de Sousa also won a bronze medal in the kata routine.
Johan du Toit also showed his skills and ensured himself of a bronze medal in both the kata routine and kumite fighting.
Xander du Toit took bronze during his kata routine and Divan Oosthuizen took third place during his kumite fighting exhibition.
Randfontein Goju Ryu Karate Club is proud of these competitors and wish them well in their future endeavours.
The club also invites everyone interested in Goju-training to attend classes on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
These classes take place at Ram’s school hall.
