Top class racing action at Tarlton

Don't miss the final round of the South African National Drag Racing Championship at the Tarlton International Raceway on 27 October.

Race enthusiasts can prepare themselves for an explosive day of action packed racing on 27 October the Tarlton International Raceway kicks off the final round of the 2013 SA National Drag Racing Championship.

Spectators will be guaranteed some awesome competition runs amongst some of the fastest Drag car competitors in South Africa as the Top Eliminator Category showcases drivers like the A-Class Dragster pilots, Dalmain Hattingh and Deon Swanepoel (Whiplash) along with the Funny Car Pilots, Werner Conradie (Addiction) and Nico van Rensburg in the Top Alcohol Funny Car (Lethal Weapon) while they devour the asphalt with some spectacular racing.

These Top Eliminator beasts are known for posting monstrous times of six to seven seconds at over 300 km/h over the quarter mile.

Nico van Rensburg (Adrenalize) will bring everything to the game to try to gain the maximum championship points lead over the rest of the Senior Eliminator arsenal.

Point’s leader, Gavin Wilkins (SpeedNSound/SpeedPro/SKF Mustang) will be chasing a host of competitors such as, Wessel Oosthuizen (Full Boost Stallion), Hannes Minnaar with the Twin Turbo 2JZ Corolla, Pieter Lombard with the RacingBoys Rotary powered Turbo Rustler, Sybie Coetzee (Datsun), Marius Oosthuizen in the “Budler Motorsport” E30 Turbo Charged BMW and Kobus Kruger (Super Test Mazda).

Topping the Super Competition Leaderbords are Simon Slooten (Camaro), Chris Dicks (Cobra), Russell Slater (C-Dragster), Shaun Watson (T-Bucket), Mark Slooten (Camaro) while turning up the heat to gain some points lead will be Louwtjie van den Berg in the “Who’s the boss II” Chevy 2 and Johan van Zyl in the 8.5 litre Fuel Injected Corvette “Forever Young” followed by Jannie Badenhorst in the Turbo charged “BranchWorx” Opel Corsa.

Competition Eliminator will see drivers such as Michelle Taylor (Celica), Leon Gouws (Datsun), André de Beer (Datsun), Jan Lubbe (Can Am), Dennis van Loggenberg (Can Am) along with many more.

Street Eliminator will have two brackets racing on the day, Super Street with a race bracket of 11.00 to 14.00 seconds will see Ugan Naidoo (VW Golf), Hussain Ismail (VW Golf), Chris Foley (Corolla), Jozo Boszniak (Audi) and Philip von Wieliigh (Mazda) to name but a few.

In the Modified Street category, which have a race bracket of 13.50 to 17.00 seconds, will see lady racers like, Elise Havenga (Mercedes), Ester Cloete (VW Golf) fight it out along the male drivers such as Hennie van Rensburg (VW Golf), Francois Weydeman (VW Golf), Marco van den Berg (Toyota).

Biker fans will also be spoilt with most of the country’s quickest and fastest street and drag bikes with riders like Jerry Lombard (Suzuki), Zafar Hoosen (Suzuki), Shaun and Bertus Breedt (Suzuki’s) will offer stiff competition in the SS-Bikes Class while in the SB-Bikes class, Peter de la Rey (BMW S1000RR), Jesaja Lombard (Suzuki), Peet Viviers (Suzuki) and Leonard Roberts (Suzuki) will battle it out to gain maximum points for the day.

Topping off the day with exhibition runs by Nico van Rensburg and Shaun Watson in the famous, Tarlton J34 Westinghouse Jet Dragsters.

These beasts are capable of reaching speeds in excess of 400 km/h over a quarter mile.

Joining in the Exhibition fun will be Marius Coetzee in the Leyland Matador, 12litre Twin Turbo V8 Drag Truck along with Shaun Watson in the Turbocharged Ford Cargo V8 Drag Truck.

Tickets will be available at Tarlton’s main gate on the day at R80.00 for adults and R40.00 for children between the ages of six and 12.

Tarlton offers plenty of free parking with take-away food and refreshments available at the venue.

The gates open at 7am and racing is set to start at around 8am.

Should the event rain out, it will be re-scheduled for Sunday 3 November 2013.
