Go into 2017 with a 10km run

Well this is something different. Come the 31st of December, residents can put on their running shoes and go into the New Year by taking part in a 10km run.

Runners will have the opportunity to do something different going into the year 2017 by participating in the New Year’s Eve Day 10km race in Randfontein on Saturday, 31 December.

The race, which was initiated by Randmark Run, Walk and Cycle Club in 2001 and known as the Fanie van Zilj 10km night race, will be hosted by the Mohlakeng Colossus Athletics and Aerobics Club this time around.

According to the club chairperson, Andrew Mathiya, the 10km race is to honour Joseph Mabodla. It will start at the Greenhills Stadium, through the CBD, past the Traffic Department back to the stadium.

Joseph is a duathlete who represented South Africa at various international duathlons. These athletic events consists of running, followed by cycling and then running again in a format bearing some resemblance to triathlons.

The 10km race starts at 5.30pm. There is also a 5km fun run for those who want less strain and pain prior to welcoming the new year.
