Dance that’s out of this world

The Randfontein Golf Club was host to a dance showcase not to be forgotten soon.

Melissa Badenhorst Dance Studio held a Dance Showcase at the Randfontein Golf Club to celebrate all its achievements this year.

The hall, decorated with beautiful drapings and lights, was packed with family, friends and supporters of the 65 dancers from the Dance Studio. After the guests were welcomed, the dancing action kicked off with Du Hast danced in Hiplet style, fusing classical ballet techniques with hip-hop and urban dance styles.

The ballet solo was breathtaking.

This already got family, friends and guests sitting up straight in their seats. Then the cutest little dancers, sitting in buckets when starting off their routine, did their Rubber Duckies dance, looking beautiful in their yellow costumes.

About 33 dance items followed, which included ballet solos, and modern, Chinese ribbon and tap dancing.

The ballet solo was breathtaking.

Dancers who had put up excellent performances at festivals and competitions earlier this year, showed off their skills. Among them were Amoraine Duvenhage who did a modern solo dance at the Showcase, the Devotions group, Foly at the Fair group and the Lost Sisters. All of them had won their categories at the Roodepoort Festival.

Christelle Vosloo, National Eisteddfod category winner did a ballet solo. Caelee Erwee, a Roodepoort Festival winner and overall under 10 Tap Bursary winner, and Isabella da Sousa who did a lyrical solo and was also a Roodepoort Festival winner, wowed the audience.

The young dancers show incredible flexibility.

Tap dancer and Roodepoort Festival winner Anais Weeks and Caitlin de Sousa, who was a Raca category winner and a Roodepoort Festival winner with We got Loot! also graced the stage. Chelné Olivier did a lyrical solo. She has the Best Modern Exam Performer title to her name. In the tightrope tap dance, Marleen Kruger was the Raca category winner.

During this Showcase, each and every dancer danced from their hearts, and it was an extremely successful event.

“This year we excelled at the Randfontein Arts an Culture Festival and also received 11 first placings at the Roodepoort Dance Festival where we competed against 25 other dance schools,” Melissa said proudly.

The studio has been around for 16 years and has produced big names in the dancing world. Melissa, the club principal, is a Royal Academy of Dance qualified ballet teacher who also knows her moves when it comes to modern and tap dancing as well as Pilates.
