Gauteng Sports Awards to be held in Mohlakeng

The much-anticipated 2022/ 23 Gauteng Sports Awards will be held at the Ace Ntsoelengoe Stadium in Mohlakeng on November 18.

According to Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation spokesperson Thabo Moloja, the awards ceremony is the crown moment to celebrate and recognise the achievements of Gauteng-based athletes, teams, officials, and media within the sports fraternity.

He said the theme of this year’s event is ‘Enabling excellence, Inspiring the youth’ as a means to commend athletes who attained great achievements between August 1, 2022 and July 31 this year. Several 57 athletes have been announced as finalists in 20 categories of which the most enviable category is Sports Personality of the Year where the winner stands a chance of driving away with a pristine car. The winner of this category will be decided by public voting through SMS.

The remaining categories will be decided by an independent seven-member panel which includes members of the media.

An additional category was added, titled the Sports Photographer of the Year to recognise photographers in the sports fraternity.

The nominees for Sports Personality of the Year are Kgothatso Montjane (wheelchair tennis), Simone Kruger (para-athletics), Temba Bavuma (cricket) and Ahmad Mahomed (kickboxing). To vote for Kgothatso SMS SPORT01 to 35328, for Simone SMS SPORT02 to 35328, for Temba SMS SPORT03 to 35328 and for Ahmad SMS SPORT04 to 35328.

The last edition winners are Andile Dlamini, Jovan van Vuuren, Lara van Niekerk, Michelle Moganedi, Arthur McGee, Caleb Levitan, Palesa Manaleng, Imma Ryneke, Retha Ingebleek, Willem Coetzer, Zalika Methula, Nelly Kubayi, Michelle Joubert, Shihan Shabnum Mia, the Titans deaf cricket team, the Zayo Academy, the Remember Elite Sports Academy, Aquatic Gauteng and Tshwane FM.
