Nine Westgold players earn Golden Lions call-up but face funding challenge
Nine Laerskool Westgold Primary rugby players have been selected to represent the Golden Lions, but each must raise R10 500 to cover costs, prompting an urgent appeal to businesses for support.
Nine talented schoolboy rugby players from Laerskool Westgold Primary have earned the honour of being selected to represent the Golden Lions in their respective age categories, marking a proud achievement for the school and the local community.

The young players have showcased exceptional skill and dedication on the field, securing their spots among some of the best junior talent in the region. Their selection is not only a personal milestone but also a testament to the strength of rugby development at the school.
The nine are:
U13:
• Wisdom Baba
• Deaclan Kitims
• Munei Kwinda
• Thandolwethu Malele
• Botlhale Mokgware
• Malik Andreas
• Hope Tshabalala
• Kgalalelo Motlhabane
U12:
• Nkosingphile Moss
However, despite the excitement surrounding their achievement, the players now face a financial hurdle. Each player is required to raise R10 500 to cover the costs of kits, travel, accommodation, and other team-related expenses. Nkosingphile Moss, being in the U12 category, needs R8 500.
The players, along with their coach Rudolph de Bruyn, are now appealing to residents, local businesses, and the broader community to assist in any way possible to ensure that these young athletes do not miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
This is a huge opportunity for these boys to showcase their talent at a higher level, but they need support to get there,” Du Bruyn said.
The school has emphasised that any form of assistance, whether financial contributions, sponsorships, or donations, would go a long way in helping the players reach their goal.
