Ben Morgenrood races to yet another award
Well-known businessman and racer in Randfontein Ben Morgenrood has always made his presence felt in motorsport but he recently reached new heights after winning a major accolade.
Ben Morgenrood (76) made big splashes at the Zwartkops 2023 Legend Racer Awards on November 25, along with other big motorsport figures.
The prestigious evening started at 17:30 with welcoming drinks. The speaker of the evening, Greg Moloney then welcomed guests and achievers while Peter du Toit delivered a prayer before starters were served. Afterward, the prize-giving got underway with a special thanks to the sponsors, committee members, and those behind the scenes. Special thanks were given to circuit owners and promoters, marshals, medics, officials, media, mechanics, crew members, and family.
On the night of the flashy prize-giving, Ben received first place in the Legends of the 9-hour in Class ZA along with Mark du Toit in second place and Jonathan du Toit in third place. Ben also received first place in the Legends of the 9-hour Tans AM Class D. Among the overall winners of the Legends of the 9-hour, he took second place.
Throughout the year he took part in the Pre 66 V8 Legends Class, Pre 73 V8 Trans AM Class, V8 Super Saloons G&H Super Saloons, and SA endurance race series. He has been racing for 56 years and has achieved great success doing so. He currently races for the Ben Morgenrood Race Team.
The first race Ben won was in 1967 for which he received two small trophies. He started his racing career with his road car which was a green Mini Cooper S. Ben said that he had won many championships and that he had received jumpers for winter sports. He added that he has raced overseas numerous times.
Ben stated that motorsport encouraged him to establish a business. He is the founder of Randfontein Panel Beaters and started this company in 1975. Today, Ben has a Ford, Mahindra, Haval, and Mazda dealership. As a result of his participation in motorsport, Ben came into contact with dealers such as Mazda and Ford where he obtained agencies.
