Spartans bag 19 medals at provincial championship
Twenty-two athletes of the Spartans Karate Dojo represented the West Rand during the Gauteng Karate Federation’s provincial championship.
A total of 22 members from the Spartans Karate Dojo competed at the Gauteng Karate Federation’s provincial championship recently.
According to coach Enzo Pillay, the group proudly represented the West Rand Karate Federation team displaying unwavering determination against all odds.
The championship was held at Orlando Community Hall in Soweto last month.

Despite going head-to-head against some of the best competitors in the province, Spartans secured 19 medals of which three were gold, nine silver, and seven bronze.
Enzo added that the disciplines performed by the members included Kata (a performance of karate skills and basics) and Kumite (a fight between two competitors displaying kicks, punches, throws, and takedowns).

“It was extremely difficult to achieve a medal at this event that had the best athletes from each of Gauteng’s five districts. The athletes, however, showed that they are capable of being the best,” Enzo said.
He concluded that Spartans Karate Dojo aims to develop all of its members to perform at the highest standard possible as well as help them achieve their goals in the sport.
