Splish Splash! Toekies hosts exciting swimming gala

Randfontein residents along with their children were able to enjoy a day filled with excitement as the Marine's Swimming Team hosted the provincial development gala.

The Marine’s Swimming Team recently hosted the provincial development gala at the Toekomsrus Swimming Pool.

Making the event a success was Aquatics Gauteng and the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation who partnered with the Department of Sport at the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM).

This is according to Marine’s Swimming Team manager Annelene Rooskrans who said ward councillor Hullet Hild and Director of Sport Development and Coordination Marissa Rose attended the gala as VIPs.

Various swimming clubs from Toekomsrus, Mohlakeng and Merafong participated and competed under the guidance of Aquatics Gauteng officials. Items like the 25m aided kickboard event allowed children from as young as four to seven to show off their swimming talents while the older age groups competed in the 25m freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and the 4x25m relay events.

“The children who participated along with their parents and families who support them had an exciting day at the pool. All the children were handed medals for their excellent performance,” Annelene stated.

She added these sorts of galas allow new swimmers the chance to be competitive while also learning to swim.

Annelene stated that with the constant support from RWCLM, the Marine’s Swimming Team allows children of all ages to join the Learn To Swim Programme.

“Every child should be allowed to learn how to swim and be proud of it,” Annelene concluded.
