Medals aplenty for Spartans in Bloem

Spartans Karate Dojo is proud to announce that their eight athletes bagged 15 medals in Bloemfontein.

Eight athletes recently represented Spartans Karate at the South African League 1 Championships in Bloemfontein.

The championships were held at the Temple Military Base in Free State.

According to Spartans public relations officer Martin Venter, the athletes formed part of the Gauteng provincial team. He added that these athletes brought home four gold, five silver and six bronze medals.

One of the athletes, Lerato Mohohlo, won gold for Kumite (fighting) and placed fifth for Kata in the 12–13 year girls’ divisions. Jody Jansen competed in the girls’ Kumite and team Kumite event where she won silver and gold and placed fifth for Kata in the 14–15 year girls’ divisions.

Aiden Arendse competed in the male Kumite, team Kata, and team Kumite events where he won two bronze and a silver. Juan-Drè Loots competed in the male Kumite, open Kumite and team Kumite events, winning two gold and one bronze. Rochelle Seitz won silver for Kumite.

Dylan Venter won silver for Kumite and Ewan Coerecius competed in the team Kata and team Kumite events and won bronze and silver. He placed fifth in the Kumite division. Abhay Harriparsad competed in the male Kumite and team Kata events where he won two bronze medals.

Gauteng Karate managed to win first place.

Sensei Enzo Pillay, who is the instructor of Spartans Karate, said they are looking forward to achieving success on the world stage soon.

“The competition was stiff, especially as it was away in the Free State, and we had to battle against their hometown advantage. The students are extremely proud and feel happy that they can hold the community’s name high on the national stage,” Martin said.
