RandMark trio of cyclists conquer the Boland Gravel Monster

Three cyclists enjoyed the fresh air and nature scenes while completing the Boland Gravel Monster.

Three cyclists from RandMark recently conquered the Boland Gravel Monster.

Lanese Forbes, a member of the RandMark committee explained, “It was such a beautiful day, but also very tough with loose thick sand, corrugated gravel roads to smooth tar roads with about 1 760m elevation on the 150km and about 900m elevation on the 90km.”

She noted two of the cyclists, Tinus Forbes and Bruce Minnie, completed the 150km race. It started at the Kleinevalleij Estate in Wellington and consisted of about 85km of gravel road and 65km of tar road. The BothmasKloof Pass was found about 60km into the race and it ended with the BainsKloof Pass which is a 14km climb and 9km downhill before ending again at Kleinevalleij Estate.

Lanese competed in the 90km race which started at Allesverloren Wines in Riebeeck West after which it joined the same route at the 150km.

“Sometimes, it is just so nice to do a race somewhere else, out of the ordinary with breathtaking views, mountains, rivers, wine estates and fresh air,” said Lanese.

She added, “I would recommend this race. The race organisers, water points and support were amazing. It was a long day on the saddle but worth it.”

Next, they are planning on competing in the Virgin Active Ride Joburg MTB race and then the road race on November 17.
