Fundraiser to make two chess players’ dreams come true

Uni-Mates Chess Club in collaboration with two schools is hosting a fundraiser to send two young and talented players to Cape Town.

Randfontein High School (RHS) and Laerskool Randfontein along with Uni-Mates Chess Club are hosting a fundraising event for two chess players hoping to make their way to Cape Town for the South African Junior Closed Chess Championships.

Head coach for Uni-Mates Chess Club Fernando Nyirenda stated they are hosting a chess tournament at RHS from 9:00 to 16:00 on March 22.

The aim is to raise funds for two of their chess players, Sehularo Kganya and Kalimashe Tshireletso, who are both in need of funds to compete in the championships in Cape Town.

He noted anyone who plays chess or would like to learn how to play chess is welcome. There will be coaches as well as two South African Junior Champions who will help people expand their knowledge of chess.

“Everyone interested in learning the game of chess is welcome to join us. We are also targeting local schools that are interested in learning and getting help with coaching,” said Fernando.

He noted they aim to raise at least R12 000 minimum, however any contributions would be appreciated.

For any person interested in joining, contact Fernando on 071 647 0395 or send an email to unimateschessclub@gmail.com.
