New coach aims to inspire young Proteas in Randfontein
Having instantly fallen in love with cricket, Rowen Malan now hopes to share that love with other young sports fanatics at Randfontein Cricket Club.
Rowen Malan has been appointed as one of the coaches at Randfontein Cricket Club and shared his passion for the sport.
Born in Pretoria, Rowen moved to Randfontein when he was in Grade Three, and he has since made Randfontein his home. He explained that he first realised he had an interest in cricket when he saw his brother play.
“Since the first moment I picked up a cricket bat, something changed inside me. I instantly had a love for the sport and since I started playing, my life has changed,” said Rowan.
He explained that cricket became a way for him to escape negative influences in his life. He also shared a great passion for sport in general, and believes cricket is the only thing he is truly good at.
Rowen has been appointed as the coach for the younger players at the club and hopes to inspire the next Protea.
“I am a sports fanatic, I have been one all my life. I have loved sport ever since I can remember and for some reason, cricket became my favourite. It came naturally to me and I am good at it. I feel it would be selfish of me to keep that to myself. I dreamt of being a Protea for a long time, but life and God had a different plan for me. Now I am dedicated and driven to producing Proteas, especially from Randfontein, my hometown,” stated Rowen.
He continued to thank everyone who had supported him and his dream. He also asked for help from the community with sponsorship and equipment.
Rowen can be contacted on 065 358 6793.
