Young gymnast dazzles at Rhythmic Nationals

After months of training and dedication, 13-year-old Rachel Pautsch achieved silver at the Rhythmic Gymnastics South African National Championships.

Rachel Pautsch (13) recently took part in the Rhythmic Gymnastics South African National Championships and won second place overall.

Rachel explained that rhythmic gymnasts from all over South Africa participated in the championships.

She performed three routines. In the dance category, she placed seventh, in the ball category, she came fifth, and in the rope category, she earned third place and a bronze medal. Overall, she achieved second place in her age group and walked away with a silver medal.

“I am proud of my results. I was focused, and it was my best performance to date. My goal was to do my best – and I did,” Rachel said.

She trained six to eight hours a week in preparation for the championships. Next year, she hopes to move up from level four to level five. At this level, she will learn new apparatus and skills, which she hopes will take her to nationals again.

“I would like to thank my sponsors for believing in me and helping me get to nationals. I hope I made them proud. I would like to encourage all young girls looking for a passion or hobby to try rhythmic gymnastics,” Rachel concluded.
