10km thrills in Mohlakeng

Athletes impressed at the Harmony Colossus AC 10km race held in Mohlakeng, with strong performances across both the men’s and women’s fields.

Several athletes recently showcased their talent at the Harmony Colossus AC 10km race held at Bambo Nobela Park.

Fernando Macavela made his intentions clear early in the race, breaking away from the leading pack to outpace his tough opponent and training partner, Tshiamo Mpshe. Representing Boxer Athletics Club, Macavela went on to win the race in a time of 31:35.

Tshiamo Mpshe of Warriors of West Athletics Club finished second in 31:40, while veteran runner Kopano Muso claimed third place in 32:32.

In the women’s race, Angela Tshabalala of Ubuhle Athletics Club from the Ekurhuleni township of Thokoza dominated the field, winning in 43:22. Koketso Malotsa of Top Runners Athletics Club in the Vaal finished second in 45:20, with Barbrah Nkoane taking third place in 58:48.

Fernando expressed satisfaction with his victory, saying: “It could have gone better on the day, but one has to be happy with a win, and everything went according to plan.”

Sponsor Tebogo Mokoena also welcomed the outcome of the event. “As a sponsor, we are overall satisfied with how the race unfolded. We aim to bring sport to the masses at the grassroots level,” he said.
