Nurturing tomorrow’s champions

Super Tigers Football Academy continues to develop young talent and life skills, inviting community support to grow youth football opportunities.

Super Tigers Football Academy, which focuses on youth development and making a positive impact in the community, is inviting support to help sustain its programmes.

Founder Bongani Duiker explained that the academy carries various operational costs, including affiliation with the Randfontein Football Association, stadium rental for training sessions, and the processing of identification documents required for players participating in tournaments. As the academy does not charge players any fees, funding is sourced through community support and sponsorships.

Duiker added that the academy is led by qualified coaches who not only focus on football development but also place strong emphasis on life skills that prepare players for the future.

He shared the story of a former player who was later noticed by Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club. The player joined the academy at the age of 12 with aspirations of playing in the left midfield position. However, due to a physical challenge with his left foot, this path proved difficult. Instead of giving up, Duiker guided the player towards a new position as a goalkeeper.

By the age of 14, the player had established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in his age group and received a trophy in recognition of his performance. While studying at university, he was later identified by a professional football club. He ultimately chose to prioritise his studies, while continuing to pursue his passion for football. Today, he remains active in the sport as a player in the Masters Football League, which caters for players aged 35 and older.

“It’s all about education. Soccer is a bonus. This year, I’m looking for passionate soccer players,” Duiker said.

He added that the academy teaches players the importance of healthy living, discipline, respect, hard work, time management and accountability, alongside technical football skills.

Community members or businesses interested in supporting the academy through sponsorship can contact the club’s administrator, Charmaine Etshabeng, on 073 395 6796.

Applications for new players to join the academy will be open from February 14 to 15.
