Edward (22) aims high with elite cycling ambitions

After developing a passion for cycling as a child, Edward Xayisa is ready to take the national cycling stage – with your help.

At only 22 years old, Edward Xayisa is making big strides in cycling and is appealing to the community for sponsorship to continue pursuing his dream.

“As an Elite cyclist from Randfontein, I’m seeking sponsorship for top gear, including a bike, wheels, kit, and event entry fees for the Cape Town Cycle Tour, Amashova National Classic Race, and Ride Joburg. Representing the Rand West City Local Municipality, I want to show what’s possible,” said Edward.

He explained that he first started cycling on a Shova Kalula at school, which sparked his passion for the sport. He then moved on to a BMX, where he learned tricks that now help him with road and trail rides. Riding as an Elite cyclist since 2020, he now participates in major road biking events.

In March, Edward will take part in the Cape Town Cycle Tour, followed by the Amashova National Classic Race in May. In June, he will compete in the Ride Joburg, representing the municipality in all three events.

“I’m stoked to show Randfontein’s spirit on the national stage, as I’ve been to many places through cycling and achieved some major milestones,” said Edward.

He recently competed in various events, achieving top finishes, including at the Satellite Classic.

Edward shared what he loves about cycling.

“The speed, technology, and community. It’s my passion, and I’m ready to take it up a notch.”

He further advised aspiring cyclists that, “Start local, dream big. Consistency is key.”
