Residents roll in for fun at Randfontein Bowling Club

Residents gathered for a relaxed afternoon of bowls, laughter and community spirit while helping raise funds for the club.

The greens at the Randfontein Bowling Club came alive with laughter, friendly competition and community spirit during a fun day held on Sunday, March 8.

Residents from across Randfontein and surrounding areas gathered at the historic club for a relaxed afternoon of bowls, socialising and family-friendly entertainment. The event welcomed both experienced bowlers and newcomers who were eager to try their hand at the sport.

Teams formed quickly, and plenty of good-natured rivalry developed on the greens. In addition to the bowling activities, visitors enjoyed refreshments and snacks while catching up and enjoying a couple of beverages from the clubhouse. Families with children also attended, turning the event into a true community gathering rather than just a sporting activity.

Organiser Charmaine Stonehouse said the fun day aimed to open the club to the broader community and introduce more residents to the sport of bowls. Additionally, the fun day was intended as a fundraiser for the club, which Charmaine said hasn’t been doing well due to operating and running costs.

“We have so few members in the club that we can’t cover the operational costs on the membership fees alone. It would be amazing if the community could come and support us on our fun days and during the week when the club is operational,” she said.

The club operates on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 13:30 into the evening.

The event was a success, with good attendance and positive feedback from participants who appreciated the welcoming environment and opportunity to try something different.

Charmaine also expressed hope that events like the fun day will encourage more people, particularly younger residents and schools, to get involved with the club and help keep the sport growing in the area.

“We would also love to partner with sponsors and businesses in keeping the sport alive in the area.”
