West Rand netball tournament brings Mohlakeng to life
Strong performances in Mohlakeng highlighted the depth of netball talent across the West Rand.
The West Rand Netball District recently hosted a vibrant tournament in Mohlakeng, bringing together teams from across the region in a celebration of sport, unity and local talent.
Clubs and community teams from Merafong, Mogale City and Rand West City took part, eager to test their skills ahead of the upcoming season.
From early Saturday morning matches on March 21 through to the final whistle, the courts were filled with energy as players displayed determination, teamwork and sportsmanship. The atmosphere drew strong support from families, coaches and spectators who cheered on throughout the day.

West Rand Netball District secretary Lebogang Mokone said the tournament was designed to prepare teams for competitive league action.
“The purpose of the tournament is to fine-tune players ahead of the official league season. The Netball Super League starts in April, and we want to ensure our teams are ready for the technical demands, intensity and physicality of league play,” Mokone said.

She added that the district continues to play an important role in developing local netball and providing opportunities for players to grow.
“Such tournaments are essential for identifying talent and strengthening club structures. Beyond competition, they also bring communities together,” she said.
Mokone noted that younger players benefited from the opportunity to learn from more experienced athletes, while teams strengthened camaraderie both on and off the court.

The tournament winners were Levites Netball Club in the U19 category and Spirit Netball Club in the senior division.
