Jannas first team powers into semi-finals with dominant victory
Hoërskool Jan Viljoen's first team delivered a commanding 52–8 victory over Reddam House to secure a place in the semi-finals, while the junior sides faced a challenging afternoon on the field.
Hoërskool Jan Viljoen High School faced Reddam House in a series of rugby fixtures last Friday, June 12, with mixed results across the age groups. However, a standout performance from the first team secured their place in the semi-finals of the Golden Lions Schools Group 4 competition.
The afternoon proved challenging for the younger Jannas teams. The U14 side went down 3–43 in a tough encounter, while the U15s suffered a 5–61 defeat against a strong Reddam outfit. The U16 match was a much closer contest, with Jan Viljoen narrowly losing 19–21 in a competitive and spirited clash.

The highlight of the day came from the first team, who delivered an emphatic 52–8 victory over Reddam. The first half was closely contested, but the game took a dramatic turn towards the end of the half when a Reddam player was shown a red card for serious foul play.
Jannas then capitalised on their numerical advantage and dominated the second half, scoring tries at will. The convincing victory showcased Jan Viljoen’s attacking strength and defensive discipline, firmly establishing them as serious contenders in the competition.

First team captain Lwandile Ntuli said the win feels amazing because they showcased intensity from the onset.

“I’m especially happy that we were able to silence our detractors who wrote us off after our first loss against Hoërskool Riebeeckrand, and to those people I say, ‘we will see you at the finals’.”

The victory is significant as it secures Jan Viljoen a place in the semi-finals of the Golden Lions Schools Group 4 competition. They are set to face Hoërskool Bekker on Friday, June 20, in what promises to be a highly anticipated clash.
With momentum on their side, the Jannas first team will be looking to build on their impressive form as they aim to secure a place in the final.
