Why mountain biking?

Randmark's adrenaline junkie on why she prefers mountain biking to road cycling

Randmark’s adrenaline junkie Annamarie Jacobsz said she’d choose mountain biking over road cycling anytime, saying it is more fun and technically challenging.

Annamarie who spoke to the Herald about why one should consider mountain biking, said although it is more intense, it does not involve the dangers that road cyclists face, such as other traffic on the road.

With mountain biking you get to enjoy the tranquility that nature has to offer. It is just you and your bike,” Annamarie said, adding that it gives you the opportunity to tackle mountainous and other uneven terrain filled with unending bumps.

“However, it is much more technical and requires advance riding skills because you come across all sorts of obstacles; something that makes the ride more interesting,” Annamarie said.

She did, however, warn that mountain biking is much tougher; it is a ‘dirty’ sport that many find interesting and exciting.

“You just need to train often so that you get used to the bumpy ride,” she added.

She said people need to know that mountain biking requires more strength because you need to accelerate and stop, and slow down – sapping one’s energy rapidly.

My experience with road cycling is that even though many find it enjoyable, you never get that sense of freedom as you are confined by traffic and others things around you,” Annamarie said.
