VIDEO: New amapiano trio strikes a chord with West Rand
Randfontein's amapiano trio, Piano Descendants, is making waves with fresh beats and big dreams as they gear up for a West Rand tour.
A brand new band called Piano Descendants has surfaced with a dream to take the music industry by storm and they are slowly but surely climbing the ladder to success.
Piano Descendants is a versatile amapiano band that was established around two months ago. As a newly formed band, the three members, Kenny Magasela, Musa Makalima and Vuyo Sekobane, want to provide the world with innovative sounds and make an impact on those who resonate with their experiences.
The first idea of the band started when Vuyo met with Musa. Both of them experimented with melodic beats before Vuyo proposed starting a band. It wasn’t long before Kenny joined the steadfast group and the band was formally established.

After weeks of hard work, the band managed to release their first Extended Play with a total of four songs. These songs include Konakele, Umona, Iminyango and Westonnarias, which are currently gaining quick traction among local residents.
βOur biggest motivation is attaining the dream we have had since we were young and fulfilling it to the fullest,β Kenny said.
Musa expressed that his biggest role model is Vigrodeep, who is a producer, because he inspired Musa to produce and create unique beats.
Vuyo, on the other hand, takes great inspiration from vocalist Julian Gomez and DJ Black Coffee.
To help those who have the same dreams, the band offered a few words of advice.
βWhen it seems tough, go out and collaborate with other artists. Make sure to spread your music to the outside world,β Vuyo explained.
βTo all the young people out there β¦ there are always reachable goals and you just have to be patient,β Kenny said.
Piano Descendants are set to tour the West Rand soon.
The band’s publisher, Immortal Music Band Records Pty Ltd, is proud to be able to support the young band. Kgotso Sefako explained the publisher is also a live band entity to help newly formed bands, such as Piano Descendants, reach their dreams.
βOur goal is to establish new voices and instrumentalists to keep making a difference through the sound of music,β Kgotso noted.

He added he dreams of helping bands play at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
According to him, live shows and studio recordings differ completely within the music industry. He added that, during live shows, performers have to resonate with the crowd and lead them into a trance of emotional healing. In the studio, artists have to build a metaphorical house. He explained it as the different layers of work which are built, which are barely seen because listeners only applaud the finished work.
