Pretoria to bake in sweltering heat as heatwave predicted
Mercury set to reach mid-30s in next few days.
A heatwave was expected to hit the capital city at the weekend, the SA Weather Service warned on Friday.
“The dry air we are currently experiencing has brought on the high temperatures we are expecting,” forecaster Kumsa Masizana said.
The heatwave was expected to start on Sunday, going into next week.
Masizana said temperatures on Sunday, were expected to peak at 34 degrees while Monday, was expected to be even warmer with temperatures peaking at 35 degrees.
Tuesday, meanwhile, was expected to be the warmest with temperatures peaking at 36 degrees.
Masizana explained that a heatwave was usually anticipated when temperatures remained constant over a certain period, with the threshold temperature being 34 degrees.
