NEWSFLASH: East residents’ tip-off leads to burglary arrest

The two suspects were spotted on the roof of a residence in La Montagne.

Vigilance and awareness led to the arrest of a suspected house burglar in the Equestria area on Thursday morning.

This comes after two men were spotted by a community member walking in Willow Park manor looking over walls of different properties around 08:30.

The resident then lost sight of the duo, but they were later spotted on the roof of a property in La Montagne, according to private security company Brinant Security spokesperson Wimpie Dempsey.

“This time other residents spotted them and cornered them in the vicinity while they contacted the SAPS and Brinant for back-up,” said Dempsey.

“Upon arrival, and search of the area, a security officer managed to arrest one of the suspects while the other suspect fled the scene.”

Dempsey said a laptop stolen in Meyerspark was recovered from the arrested man, who was handed over to Silverton police.

Dempsey commended the vigilance and awareness of the residents who gave the tip-off.
