Guard shot dead in north CIT robbery

One of the patients believed to be a suspect, was critical and had to be transported to hospital.

A guard was killed and three other people were injured during a cash-in-transit robbery in the north of Pretoria on Friday morning.

During the robbery involving a Fidelity cash van, an exchange of gun fire ensued on the Hornsnek Road near the R566.

“Upon paramedics’ arrival, we found that one guard had succumbed to his injuries after he was shot.

Two other guards suffered moderate injuries and were taken to hospital,” said Best Care ambulance service spokesperson Albert Jansen van Nieuwenhuizen.

Jansen van Nieuwenhuizen said one of the patients believed to be a suspect, was critical and was transported to hospital.

He said no further details were available regarding the incident.

Police could not be reached for comment.
