Lego fun day at east school

Look at what the Lego Foundation can achieve with educational play.

The Lego play activity foundation will be hosting its first-ever play session at the Eersterust secondary school in the east of Pretoria this weekend.

This fun-filled event will be held on Saturday 1 September.

It will be hosted by the South African Lego community, called jhbLUG, and the University of Pretoria.

About 60 students from the school will be participating.

The morning will consist of educational play activities and conclude with lunch sponsored by Roman’s Pizza in Silverton.

On the day, children will interact with various volunteers who are members of the faculty and students at the university as well as members of the Lego community to provide different approaches to problem-solving skills.

They will also get to interact with experienced builders and faculty members from the university.

The Lego Foundation South Africa said it has taken big strides in its charity efforts to children, schools and organisations in need.

Their aim is to impact early childhood development and primary education. They do this by engaging children in playful learning activities.

“Research has shown that learning is more effective when learners are actively involved in the learning process,” the foundation said in a statement.

“Learners learn best when they construct something that they find personally meaningful.”

“Children and people in general benefit from varied social interactions and education provided in a fun environment,” said the jhbLUG group.

“This, in turn, will create a lifelong passion for learning. Children are given freedom to develop their own solutions and to organize their own methods for resource collection, design and workflow.”
