A filling station in Skinner Street in the city centre has suffered the loss of thousands of rands due to cable theft, which has been described by the government as economic terrorism.
Cable thieves set alight the power cable that supplied electricity to the Sasol filling station two weeks ago and since then the petrol station had been unable to operate.
The power cable was set alight at the Bus Rapid Transit system construction site.
According to the Sasol filling station’s manager, Mohammed Moola, the lack of electricity to their convenience store had destroyed most of their stock, as refrigerators have not been able to function. The problem has also resulted in a number of petrol station employees not showing up for work, he said.
It is not clear when the Tshwane metro will fix the cable. According to Mohammed, the matter has already been reported.
