Suspects still at large after Akasia murder

Police are on the hunt for three male suspects after an Akasia businessman was killed in his home on Christmas Eve.

Police are searching for three suspects after 63-year-old Kobus Smit, a businessman from corner First Avenue and Joan Street, Heatherdale, was shot and killed on Christmas Eve during a house robbery.

“They broke in through the door and demanded a Plasma TV and a boiler maker. They then shot the victim twice in the chest and he died on the scene,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi.

The robbers, who fled with an unknown form of transport, are facing charges of murder. “Anyone with information can contact the Akasia police. We are investigating a case of murder,” said Nkoadi.

Facebook users took to the group page Boere Crisis Action to express their opinion.

“God please keep this family in their hour of need and save our country out of this mess we find ourselves in,” said Tomas Loggerenberg.

“I had tears in my eyes about this. Stop this senseless killing of people immediately,” said Cheris Hickley.

According to media reports, Smit’s body is still located at the Ga-Rankuwa hospital mortuary awaiting forensic examinations.
