The Atteridgeville police recently arrested 83 suspects for various crimes. According to Captain Thomas Mufumadi, they worked around the clock to get criminals off the street. “We arrested 14 people for being in possession of drugs, 3 for being in possession of dangerous weapons and 1 for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, among others.”
The police are also warning students who rent accommodation and members of the the community to be aware of a group of people robbing houses in the Khoza Street area. A student was recently robbed in the room she was renting when the suspects forced their way in.
“The suspects knocked on her door and she opened it, thinking it was her friend. The suspects put a gun to her head and when she tried to push the door closed, they forced themselves inside the room,” Mufumadi explained. A laptop, cell phones and other valuables were reported stolen; the police are still looking for the suspects, who fled the scene.
“We just want students and residents to be alert. The police are doing patrols in the area because most students live in rooms in the Khoza Street area.”
