Body found in bin

Scrap metal collectors in Mamelodi East recently found the body of a woman inside a big bin.

Scrap collectors made a gruesome discovery when they found the body of a dead woman inside a rubbish bin in the Mamelodi East, Phase 1 informal settlement. The body had been wrapped in a blue towel, covered with a brown blanket and stuffed into a refuse bag. The deceased had marks on her neck indicating that she had been strangled.

The scrap metal collectors immediately alerted police and workers from the municipal cleaning project. Francina Tshabalala, who works for the Vat Alles cleaning campaign, said the boys were searching for scrap metal when, to their horror, they found a body inside a big rubbish bin.

“We found the body of a dead woman believed to be in her late forties. However, nobody in the area was able to recognise the body,” said Tshabalala.

Shocked, she said she still found it hard to believe that someone could commit such a terrible crime. Mamelodi East police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Michael Mbewe, confirmed that a 46-year-old suspect was arrested on the same day in connection with the body that was found. The suspect will soon appear at the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court.
