Nico Henning gives R9,7m surety

Nico Henning has provided the R9,7m surety required to secure his bail and will appear again in court in June, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said on Monday.

The estranged husband of Chanelle Henning, Nico Henning, has provided the Pretoria Regional Court with R9,7m surety required to secure his bail and will reappear in court on 3 June, the National Prosecuting Authority said on Monday.

“He has paid R300 000 in cash to be released on bail. His next court appearance will be normal procedure to recap on his case,” said NPA spokesperson, Medupe Simasiku.

According to reports, Henning’s advocate said his client had provided him with the title deeds to two properties and a sworn evaluation valuing the properties at a minimum of R10m.

Henning is charged with murder and conspiracy to murder his 26-year-old wife, Chanelle Henning, who was shot dead shortly after dropping off their child at a crèche in Faerie Glen in November 2011.

He handed himself over to the Villieria police after convicted suspect, Andre Gouws, testified during sentencing proceedings that he was offered R1m by Henning to murder his wife in order to gain custody of their child.

Gouws, and the former Nigerian Olympic athlete, Ambrose Monye, were found guilty for Chanelle Henning’s murder.

However, Henning’s trial date has not been finalised, as investigations are still ongoing. “We are awaiting an affidavit from Monye as well as other documents and information before we can invite him to trial,” said Simasiku.
