Who to turn to in life-threatening situations
Various organisations are working with the SAPS in the Centurion area to make the neighbourhoods safer.
It is important for the community to know who to turn to in dangerous or life-threatening situations. The police, together with the Community Policing Forum (CPF) and other residential associations are working together to make Centurion’s neighbourhoods safer, and have identified crime hotspots in the different sectors. They have made it their priority to be alert and on the lookout for criminal activities such as hijacking and drug dealing.
Any member of the public can provide the police or CPF with information regarding criminal activities and suspicious behaviour. The SAPS in Wierdabrug have three approved sectors which, in total, make up an area of 75km². Each sector has its own sector manager as well as a Community Policing Forum chairperson.
These sectors include the following suburbs:
– Sector 1 (sector manager is Constable Wayne Crew) includes Valhalla, Monrick, Eldo Falls and Glen Lauriston. Contact details: 071-675-6459 or 071-675-6460. CPF chairperson: Martin Vrey
– Sector 2 (sector manager is Warrant Officer Gerhard Pauls) includes Rooihuiskraal and Gateway Industrial. Contact details: 071-675-6461 or 071-675-6462. CPF chairperson: Pierre Viviers 083-737-7902.

Sector 2 of the Lyttelton SAPS is made up of residential areas including Doringkloof, Lyttelton, Lyttelton x11, Lyttelton Manor, Lyttelton East, Lyttelton North, Kloofsig and Tech Base. The following neighbourhood watches and residents’ associations are active in Sector 2:
– Doringkloof Residents’ Association, Lyttelton Crime Stop, Lytcom and Kloofsig Radio on call. Contact details: Lourens Botha, chairman of the Lyttelton SAPS Sector 2 Community Policing Sub-forum, 082-339-6136.
Within Sector 2 there are four repeater networks broadcasting from different locations in the area. The sub-forum works closely with the SAPS, especially Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Phogole and Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu, who are dedicated to Sector 2.
Monitor Net and EBS have the sub-forum’s radios in their vehicles for continuous communication and a swift response. There is also a patrol vehicle running seven days a week with day and night shifts. At the moment, this sector is in the final testing phase of the Camera Surveillance System.
Sector 2 also has close ties with the SAPS Air Wing, which can assist them in operations and with aerial photos of the sectors to identify criminal hotspots. Members partake in the SAPS’s strategic and clean-up operations to help curb crime and clean up these hotspots.
Councillor Vickey Bosch is part of the steering committee and assists with municipal matters, among others. In addition, a socio-economic section assists people and animals in need. Whether the need is for food, counselling, work or even housing, this sector aims to assist members of the community.
