Two suspects were arrested for theft after the complainant ran after them, the police said on Tuesday.
According to the police, the suspects entered the complainant’s house in Lyttelton at around 18:00 and stole a bicycle. The owner of the house said he was on his way to the kitchen when he saw two men in the passage carrying the bicycle.
“When I asked them what they were doing in my house, they fled. I jumped in my car and drove around until I finally managed to catch them at Kloofsig next to the railway line. That’s when I called the police to come and arrest them.”
He added that he had previously been the victim of theft when, in October, a car radio was stolen and again in December when criminals broke into his house and stole a video game.
Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu said that cooperation with the police was needed and encouraged members of the community to assist one another.
