Hawks arrest Sanral saboteur

The Hawks recently arrested a suspect for sabotaging the Sanral offices, but would like to confirm that the suspect is a Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project worker, not a Sanral employee as reported previously.

The Hawks made a breakthrough in a case on Wednesday afternoon when they arrested a Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP) employee who they believe sabotaged Sanral’s control offices last week. Sanral informed the media that it was not a Sanral employee, as reported on Thursday morning.

They thanked the Hawks on Thursday for their efficient and swift work in arresting the individual who allegedly caused the evacuation of the premises of the Central Operations Centre in Samrand.

“The arrest should send the message that while peaceful protest is every citizen’s right, actions like threatening that a bomb is on the premises or any other hoax, is a serious offence. We strongly condemn such actions. The swift police action is an indication of how seriously such hoaxes are taken,” said Vusi Mona, Sanral’s spokesperson.
