Student allegedly robbed by bogus police

Hercules police are on the lookout for bogus police officers that recently robbed a TUT student.

Two bogus police officers allegedly robbed a Tshwane Univeristy Student (TUT) in Daspoort recently.

According Captain Bonginkosi Msimango from the Hercules police station, Thato Motsage (20), a student at TUT was walking along Jennings Street in Daspoort, when a white City Golf with registration number SCV800GP stopped next to him.

“The two occupants produced the police identification cards and introduced themselves as police officers investigating a bank robbery, which recently took place.”

The two men allegedly told Motsage that he resembles the identity of one of the suspects that were involved in the robbery. They then asked to search him of which he agreed.

“They further requested his bank card to verify if it belongs to him. They later gave back the card to him and drove off,” Msimango explained.

He further explained that while the student was on his way back  to the college he received a sms notifying him that a certain amount of money was withdrawn from his bank account.

No arrests have been made and the case and police are investigating a case of theft.

“We appeal to members of the community to be alert and report any suspicious people and cars immediately to the police. If possible, seek help from people nearer to engage the police timeously,” Msimango encouraged.

The Hercules Police appeal to the community and witnesses to come forward with any information that could help them make an arrest. Anyone with information can contact Hercules Police station at 012-3774100.
