Three suspects, aged between 23 and 28, were recently arrested in Extension 6 Mamelodi East for being in possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and suspected stolen property, the Mamelodi police said.
After receiving a tip-off about suspicious-looking men hiding in the backroom of a house, the police managed to arrest three suspects, while one suspect escaped when the police arrived.
“We searched their room and found three 9mm pistols with serial numbers filed off, 9mm ammunition, seven cell phones, a small axe, a knife and masking tape,” said the police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Michael Mbewe.
The suspects will appear in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court soon. “We believe they could be a part of a syndicate involved in a series of crimes around Mamelodi. The search continues for the fourth suspect who escaped,” said Mbewe.
Anyone with information regarding the crimes and the escaped suspect can contact the Mamelodi police on 012-815-7081/7080.
