Man dies over chicken

A 45-year-old man was murdered on Monday over cooked chicken, allegedly by his two housemates.

Two suspects are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of murder, after they allegedly murdered their house mate.

The alleged killing took place at an Andeon smallholding on Monday, where the two suspects and deceased were living together in an abandoned house.

“The murder happened on Monday night. It is alleged that the deceased had an argument with the two suspects over a chicken they have cooked,” Hercules spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said.

Msimango said the argument apparently led to a fight during which the deceased was hacked with a spade.

It was a great shock for the deceased’s friend to find him lying in a pool of blood when he arrived on the scene on Tuesday morning.

“At around 06:30 the deceased’s friend, who always collects scrap metals with him, came to fetch him. He said he found the door of the house slightly open and called out for him, but he did not answer.”

The friend entered the house and found the body.

Police say the man was declared dead at the scene by paramedics. Rapid investigations led to the arrest of the two suspects, who are now facing murder charges.

“The 45-year-old deceased was known as Petros,” Msimango added.
