Over Valentine’s weekend, the Hercules police showed love to their community by ridding the streets of 57 suspected criminals. According to Captain Bonginkosi Msimango, the crimes ranged from common theft, possession of dagga, shoplifting and fraud to burglary of a residence, illegal immigrants and being a pedestrian source of danger.
“Other suspects were also arrested for being on foot on a railway line, drunkenness, drinking in public, illegal gambling, urinating in public and trespassing.” Msimango said that among the arrested was a 31-year-old man who was an employee of a shop in the area, and was arrested for theft after he admitted to stealing R20 00 on Friday.
“The same night, a female suspect, aged 28, was arrested for being in possession of dagga at Mia Bouwer Crescent in Hermanstad,” Msimango indicated. On Saturday, a 36-year-old man was arrested for stealing a box of Protex bath soap at the Hermanstad Trade Centre. “The man tried to run away but he was later caught and brought back to the scene by security. The police later arrested him.”
When the vehicle disc displayed on the windscreen did not correspond with the registration number of the vehicle, a 53-year-old man was arrested for fraud. The incident took place on the corner of Bremer Street and Van der Hoff Road.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court shortly. “We work hard as the police and we enforced zero tolerance. We will fight to keep our community safe,” Msimango concluded.
