A body of an unidentified half-naked woman was found in a river near Vom Hagen Sand Maltzan Streets in Pretoria West on Thursday morning, police said.
A member of the Pretoria West community spotted the body in the river at about 11:30, before contacting police and paramedics. “Upon arrival, we confirmed that the lady was indeed dead. We suspect a possible murder situation based on the state of her body,” said Best Care Ambulance Services spokesperson Xander Loubser.
The woman, suspected to be in her late 20s or early 30s, was found with stab wounds to her head and face, with her throat cut. “We found some of her clothing several metres away from the scene. We are now investigating a case of murder and no arrests have been made as yet,” said police spokesperson Sergeant Ann Poortman.
Police are currently uncertain if the woman was raped. “Rape will only be proven once the DNA tests are done,” Poortman said.
