Man shot in front of garage

A second Centurion resident was shot in front of his home this past weekend.

A 38-year-old man was shot in front of his garage in a security complex in Eldoraigne on Saturday morning.

According to police spokesperson Sergeant Ann Poortman, a witness told police that the man was shot by two unknown men between 10:00 and 11:00.

A resident in the complex, who prefers to stay anonymous, told Rekord that he was at his neighbour’s house when he saw two men pushing against the main gate. “I asked them what they were doing and then I saw them charging in. I knew there would be trouble and as I ran to phone the police, I heard a gunshot 40m further.”

According to him, the men fled the scene after grabbing the man’s car keys that had a remote control for the gate.

“I am shocked. Nothing like this has ever happened in the almost ten years I have been staying here. I am scared that they might come back and will not be sleeping here for some time,” he told Rekord.

Another resident claimed that she heard a gunshot but she did not suspect any criminal activity as there is a shooting range nearby. “I am horrified because this is a very safe and peaceful neighbourhood.”

According to residents the deceased was staying alone.

Poortman confirmed that a witness claimed that the men fled the scene with nothing but the victim’s car keys.

“The motive for the killing is still unknown,” she said.
