Business robbed of thousands

Armed robbers demanded money while holding staff members at gunpoint at a local business on Monday morning.

A local business in Doringkloof has been robbed of almost R50 000 after five armed suspects gained access on Monday morning.

The incident happened around 10:00, just before the restaurant opened at 11:00.

According to one of the managers, five men, of which three were armed, entered the premises. They went to the back of the building where three of them entered the office and demanded money and keys to the safe. Four staff members where in the office at that time and handed over all the money that they were busy cashing up.

The men took the money and opened the safe to steal the rest of the money.

Another staff member noticed the suspicious activity and set off the panic button. The police and security reaction officers arrived on the scene within minutes .

“We were scared that they were going to shoot us when the alarm went off, but luckily they just grabbed everything and ran away,” one of the women, who were in the office at that time, said.

The staff members were traumatised, but relieved that no one was injured. The situation in the office was very tense when the men held the staff members at gunpoint.

According to the manager, the suspects did not appear to be aggressive. They were dressed neatly and worked professionally. “I don’t think this was an inside job, because we did not recognise them,” he said.
