Garsfontein criminals posing as roof company
Five suspects are still at large after a house was robbed in Garsfontein on Friday, police said on Monday. It is alleged that their modus operandi is posing as a roofing company and target domestic workers during daylight.
Police are warning residents and domestic workers of five suspects who pose as a roofing company to rob homes in daytime, after a house was robbed in Garsfontein on Friday, police said.
At about 13:55 on Friday afternoon, a red bakkie hooted at the gate of a house in Lassie Street, where the five occupants informed the domestic worker that they are responding to a call to fix the roof tiles of the house.
“The domestic worker then opened the gate for them and let them in. She was met by four men and one woman. Two of the suspects suddenly pulled her to the bedroom where they tied her up,” said Garsfontein police spokesperson Captain Hennie Steenkamp.
The suspects then took several electronic equipment, a flat screen TV and jewellery. “A case of house robbery has been opened. Residents should be aware of this modus operandi. No arrests have been made as yet,” said Steenkamp.
However, Steenkamp stated that the crime rate in the area has decreased drastically. “We are pleased to say that we are experiencing less serious crimes. We experience about two to three house break-in reports in a space of two days, whereby last year we would receive ten reports per day,” he said.
