Rainfall leads to Apies bridge closure
The Apies river bridge was closed on Tuesday morning due to excessive rainfall. The bridge could be closed again during the week if the river overflows, as it will be raining for the rest of the week.

The bridge over the Apies River has opened after it was closed on Tuesday morning due to it overflowing because of the excessive rainfall. The bridge between Hercules and Capital Park was closed between 08:30 until about 10:00 on Tuesday morning. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and not try to drive over the bridge, as this is dangerous.
According to Lorraine Smith from the Hercules CPF, the metro police have closed the bridge on the eastern side and a member of the Hercules CPF has closed it on the western side. “The alternative routes that motorists can take to get to the other side of the bridge are to drive through the tunnel, use Es’kia Mphahlele Drive or drive through Mountain View.”
As it will be raining for the rest of the week, the bridge may remain closed if the rainfall threatens overflowing again. Motorists are warned to take precautions when driving over the bridge.
