Top science student part of UP programme

A pupil from Lyttelton Manor High School is one of 50 chosen for UP’s science programme.

A grade 10 pupil from Lyttelton Manor High School, Gcina Nkomezwayo, is one of 50 learners who has been accepted into the University of Pretoria’s UP with SCIENCE programme.

Every year each school is allowed to nominate two of their learners. The successful candidates enrol in a three-year programme, from grade 10 to grade 12, full of fun science activities, which include Saturday meetings once a month and a project once a year. Thereafter they may qualify for a tuition scholarship at the university.

The programme is aimed at increasing young people’s interest in and knowledge of science. Learners who have a high potential and a keen interest in science are considered. The participants are selected on the basis of two important criteria namely, their academic potential and their interest in science.
