
The Solar Eagle, a vehicle running only on solar energy, is the product of pupils, teachers, parents and professionals associated with Maragon Private school in Olympus. The Solar Eagle team recently shared with their family school, Maragon Ruimsig, the educational value, skills and experience of what this project, that is part of their curriculum, meant to them. More than 500 excited Ruimsig pupils engaged with the Olympus students to ask questions about the project, that will take the solar car from Pretoria to Cape Town, covering a distance of 2000km and powered only by solar energy. This historic trip starts on 27 September in Pretoria.Maragon Olympus is one of the first schools participating in the Sasol Solar Challenge, competing with universities. Maragon Private Schools train their students for jobs that do not yet exist.
Maragon Olympus aims to involve their whole Maragon Group in the next 2016 Sasol Solar Challenge. “Our school is big enough to do the hot stuff like this, but small enough to involve everybody,” says student Joel Miruho.
