The Rietgat police have applauded the police reservists and community patrollers for the sterling work they have been doing to curb crime in the area.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Lolo Mangena, the far north eastern sides of Soshanguve and other clusters of their operation have been relatively quiet without major crimes. “The police reservists and community patrollers have been patrolling across all the crime hotspot in the areas that our cluster covers,” he said.
Mangena said even the Mabopane train station, which is notorious for being the hub of criminals, who often mugged people especially during month end, was quiet. He said the nyaope addicts who usually caused trouble were now controllable and the police reservists and community patrollers are always up to their duties.
“As you know, during month end Mabopane train station is often populated by many people coming to buy groceries. This time around our patrollers have been hard at work to make sure the area is crime free,” he said. He said even the crimes of mugging and smash and grabs were at a low.
He added leading to the festive season, police will be staging other strategic operations that will ensure the complete safety of residents. “It is our utmost aim to work with the community. That is why even now there are Community Policing Forums that work closely together to ensure the area of operation is crime free,” he said. Mangena appealed to residents to regularly contact the police when they suspect any crime-related activities. Rietgat police can be phoned on 012-790-9900.
