The Garsfontein police are working tirelessly to smash vehicle theft and hijacking syndicates in the east of Pretoria.
Police on Wednesday chased after and arrested three alleged hijackers in the Garsfontein area.
Warrant Officer Dave Miller, police spokesperson, said the crime prevention unit was patrolling the area at around 12:00 when they noticed a black Toyota RunX and suspicious occupants.
“The three men tried to run away as police clamped down on them. Police chased after them and they were taken into custody,” Miller said.
“It was found that the vehicle was recently hijacked in Pretoria.”
Miller added that the men were also found with housebreaking equipment in their possession.
This follows after the Garsfontein police on Tuesday nabbed two alleged vehicle thieves in the Lynnwood area.
Miller said the crime prevention unit was patrolling the streets when they noticed a suspicious vehicle on Lynnwood Road.
“Police officers found the two men in the process of cloning a silver Volkswagen that had been stolen in the Garsfontein area about two weeks ago,” he said.
It is not yet clear if the men could be linked to other crimes.
The men will appear in court soon.
