Monitor Net have foiled car thieves attempting to steal a car in Melkbos street in Zwartkop in the early hours of Friday morning (3 October).
Theo Petzer, Operations Manager of Monitor Net, said the Wierda Park community policing forum (CPF) first contacted them through the Zello application that many residents use to communicate with each other about community safety. “The Wierda Park CPF informed us that a silver Toyota RunX was stolen, and that they had chased after the suspects, but that they got away.”
Petzer says that he notified one of the armed guards on the tactical response team, Roger Mdluli, to keep an eye out. “Mdluli spotted the car in Melkbos Street, attempting to steal a Toyota Hilux bakkie. He confronted the suspects and chased them through Centurion, and onto the highway. The chase continued up to the R101, where the suspects took the off-ramp, driving past Grey Owl Village,” says Petzer.
He said the suspects stopped at the R101 and Brakfontein Road intersection, got out of their car, and started firing on the Monitor Net official, and then abruptly fled the scene.
“Unfortunately the suspects got away, but at least the stolen car was recovered and taken away by the Olievenhoutbos police,” said Petzer.
False registration plates were also found in the car. The suspects are still at large, and anyone with any information can contact the police.
