A burst water main has sent tens of thousands of litres of water metres into the air in Highveld Park on Wednesday.
The water pipe burst Wednesday morning, and continued spilling incredible amounts of water throughout the day.
After some time, the municipality shut down the flow of water and repaired the problem.
Residents are furious that a problem like this took so long to fix, especially with several experts, and Salga spokesperson Pinky Moloi warned of a possible water shortage in South Africa.
Councillor Peter Sutton of the DA has said that the municipality is supposed to address problems like these within an hour. “Unfortunately, the municipality has a limited capacity, which means that problems like these often take time to repair.”
Although the exact cause of the burst pipe is unknown, an investigation is currently underway to determine the nature of the incident.
