Lyttelton Crime Stop a success

CPF help keeps the community safe.

The Lyttelton Crime Stop (LCS) community policing forum has grown and achieved a lot of success in the past seven years.

It was formed in 2007 after an incident in Lyttelton, where and elderly couple was attacked and robbed. The man died during the night, and his wife succumbed to her injuries three months later.

This incident was the catalyst for the formation of the LCS, which has grown from a few members in 2007, to over 360 in 2014.

All members have two-way radios that they use to communicate with each other, which they use to call for help during any crime, often three to four times a week and often more than once per night.

One of LCS’ most recent successes came on September 29, when a schoolboy was mugged of his cellphone in Lyttelton. LCS members were alerted of the incident and tracked down the suspect on the corner of Trichardt Road and Cradock Avenue, a mere four blocks away from the incident. The suspect was then handed over to the Lyttelton police.

The LCS patrols the Lyttelton Manor area, which is notorious for the number of crime in the area, between Trichardt Road, Botha Avenue, Amcor Road and Clifton Avenue.

The LCS is a neighbourhood watch, which describes itself as ‘by the community, for the community’. LCS is just one of many CPFs patrolling Centurion and keeping a vigilant guard over our homes. These are the everyday heroes that we need to thank for keeping us safe.
